The Corbeta Uruguay is the oldest floating ship of the Argentine Navy, with more than 130 years since its official incorporation in September 1874.
During her life, the Uruguay has fulfilled different functions. She was present in important expeditions asserting the sovereignty of Argentina in the Patagonian coast, she served for hydrographic works and she was also used as naval academy. However, perhaps the most important episode of her exciting life, was the successful search and rescue, in Antarctica, of the lost Swedish Expedition, in 1903. This expedition, led by the young Swedish geologist Otto Nordenskjöld, counted with the presence of an argentine: José María Sobral.
Nowadays, Corbeta Uruguay is docked in the beautiful area of Puerto Madero, and is open for those who want to learn more her remarkable history.
